Maya Today

I did not know there was 6 million Maya people in South America. I think that is the problem that many people (even me before I read this) do not realize that there was Maya people and culture are still alive and thriving.

Also there is many Government people and others who do not like the Maya people. They want them to not be noticed I think because if they are in the CUC they get arrested and killed a lot of the time.

It reminds me of the Native Americans in the USA. They live on Reservations and they are discriminated by Americans and the Government a lot of the time.

  1. It is the corrupt government and people that have always made me skeptic about going to Mexico. Its a shame that such a beautiful place has to be surrounded with so much violence.

  2. I agree with both of you. The government should be there to guide us, but instead, they pick and chose who and what they want. Unfortunate that the Maya are treated so poorly today. You'd think we could learn a thing or two from them.

  3. I was also impressed to learn that there are over 6 million Maya in southern Mexico and Central America. Being from Puebla, Mexico (one of the biggest cities in Mexico) I know first hand that the government in very corrupt. The last time I was there (about 5 years ago) some of my cousins told me stories about the cops there. Is about who you know and how much money you have in your pocket, not about the crime that was committed.

  4. It is a shame that natives to a land suffer from civilizations that invade and take over. I totally agree with you in the idea that the Maya remind me of the Native Americans. Why can’t we all just get along.
